Autosave timing, Steam Cloud, one-autosave complaints, and fixes for being stuck in bed, behind the counter or at the dock.
Nivalis Nights Saves and Stuck Problems: What to Do
Nivalis Nights autosaves once at the end of each in-game day, saves manually from the pause menu at any time, and stores .sav files in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ION LANDS\Nivalis Nights — the same folder as the game logs. That is everything the developer has published, and it is enough to plan around: one autosave per day makes the pause-menu save your only real insurance.
- One autosave per in-game day. The store's
Save Anytimetag refers to that manual save, not extra autosaves. - Saves and logs share one folder, so a bug report can hand over both at once.
- Wedging has its own thread titles — bed, bar, curb, curfew — and a short list of escapes.
- Saving is absent from the developer's six-item known-issues list, and no patch note mentions it.
Player accounts below were pulled from the Steam review API and the Steam discussion board on September 30, 2026, and are reports, not confirmed behaviour.
How saving is supposed to work
The pinned FAQ answers two questions under SAVING and stops. Verbatim:
Nivalis Nights autosaves at the end of each day, and you can also save manually at any time from the Pause Menu during gameplay. We recommend saving manually before you quit, so you keep any progress made since your last autosave.
Yes! Nivalis Nights supports Steam Cloud, so your saves will sync automatically between PCs. Syncing requires an internet connection, but you can still play offline and your saves will sync the next time you're online.

The store data narrows that. The appdetails payload for app 1488490 lists Save Anytime (id 79) and Steam Cloud (id 23) among its feature categories. Save Anytime is a claim about saving whenever you want, which the pause menu honours. It says nothing about autosave frequency, and no official text has given a number.
Saving from the pause menu whenever you finish something you would be annoyed to redo costs two seconds, and it is the only save the developer tells you to take.
Where the save files actually are
The path people search for is not on the store page. It sits in the pinned known-issues thread, inside the bug-reporting instructions: "If the problem is with a save, the save files (.sav) are in the same folder." That folder is named two paragraphs earlier — press Win+R and paste %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ION LANDS\Nivalis Nights, where you will find Player.log and Player-prev.log with the .sav files alongside.

"Each launch replaces the older log," which is why a developer asking for logs wants them "straight after the problem happens, before starting the game again." Keep Steam Cloud as your second copy, not your only one.
No official text describes the save format, the naming, or how many .sav files exist.

"There is only one autosave": the reports, side by side
I pulled 500 reviews through the Steam review API; the store listed 1,438 in total, 1,057 positive and 381 negative, at the time of the pull. Thirteen mention saving at all, and five claim there is no usable autosave.
| Player report | Upvotes | Posted (UTC) | What it says |
|---|---|---|---|
| "the ruinous combination of no autosave, and frequent crashes" | 5 | 09-29 21:26 | No autosave, plus a lost hour |
| "There is no auto or quick-save" | 13 | 09-30 12:55 | Tied to a memory leak that makes Steam force-close the game |
| "Couldn't load a save since there is only one autosave!" | 2 | 09-30 05:52 | File died after an opening-hours change on day 15 |
| "the game only autosaves after you go to bed" | 1 | 09-30 07:20 | Matches the official line; a crash cost "nearly an hour" |
| "only autosaves when you wake up from sleep... I went to save and instead loaded" | 1 | 09-30 04:49 | Save and Load sit close, no confirmation prompt |
The "no autosave" crowd and the developer are not in conflict — a day ending in your bed is what "the end of each day" means. The real surprise is the last row: a player hit Load while aiming for Save, with no "are you sure?", and rolled back to the start of the day.
505 has published no autosave count, no slot list and no save-screen screenshot. "There is only one autosave" is the most-upvoted sentence in the sample at two upvotes — well liked, barely corroborated. Do not restart a 20-hour save on a forum post's word alone. Open the .sav folder and count.
That day-15 report also said its restaurant stopped spawning customers at all. The No more Customers coming to the restaurant thread, 13 posts when I pulled it on September 30, reports the same symptom with the opposite history — the original poster says "i didnt change anything". Replies offer a story deal with a hotel owner, an onion delivery that poisoned customers, and stalled customer paths, plus three fixes: relaunch after saving to reset the customer paths, buy the Boat Hanger from The Shacks and serve elsewhere until the ramen stand recovers, and empty the fridge. The last one came from a player on day 14 with stuck employees: "I checked my store's fridge and there were 300 rotten food. I took it out and everyone started moving again."
Nothing there has been confirmed as corruption. Check the story triggers and the restart first — and remember managers and staff misbehaving produces the same empty-room look.
The stuck list, and what gets you out
| Where you get stuck | Source | Reported fix |
|---|---|---|
| In the bed, "tried all keybinds", survived a quit and a reload | Stuck in Bed, 09-30 06:57 UTC, 0 replies | None. The poster also reports saving took "HOURS and MULTIPLE REPLAYS" to write a file |
| Pushed behind the bar by a customer while holding a bowl; fast travel will not open | Unstuck Button, 09-30 06:02 UTC, 0 replies | None: "Tried saving and reloading, no dice... I don't want to restart" |
| Out after curfew with nowhere to sleep | Per community: Patch needed for...., 09-30 08:07 UTC | Unresolved; the poster concedes it may be by design |
| Mid-morning newspaper animation, every morning | Review, up=1, 09-30 11:13 | "I actually have to activate my controller and hit 'B' to get out of it" |
| Boat snapping position on arrival | Review, up=1, 09-30 02:51 | Unresolved: "clunky stuff that can get you stuck as well" |
By frequency the escapes are: save, quit and relaunch, the most repeated fix; call a taxi, which freed one player wedged between NPCs and is the game's own fast travel; plug in a controller and press B; and leave the district, since a stuck state that blocks sleeping cannot be skipped by sleeping.
None of that appears in the developer's material. The known-issues thread lists six areas being worked on — performance, quests, NPC movement, venue item placement, Steam Deck, visuals and animation — and saving and softlocks are not among them, even though two bugs above sit right beside the venue-placement and NPC-movement lines. The curfew case is strategic rather than broken: where your apartment sits and how districts connect, plus the day-night cycle itself.
The official order, and what to attach to a report
505 publishes a fixed sequence in the FAQ's TROUBLESHOOTING section: update graphics drivers; verify game files in Steam; close background apps and overlays; restart the game or your PC; check your PC meets the store's minimum requirements.
If that fails, file a ticket at support.505games.com with the four things the developer asks for: what happened and where, the steps that led to it, your PC specs, and a screenshot or video if you can. For anything save-related, attach the whole Nivalis Nights folder. A DxDiag report is requested too, with one exception: "If you play on Steam Deck, just let us know, there's no need to send this." The spec table is in system requirements; the frame-rate half of step four is in performance issues.
Every launch overwrites the previous log, so a report filed after you restarted the game loses the evidence. Copy the folder before relaunching — if the game is being force-closed by a memory spike, that folder is the only record.
What the developer has not said
- No autosave count, slot list or file naming, as of September 30, 2026.
- No reply addresses saving, autosave or being stuck. Of 500 reviews, 28 carry a developer reply. Twenty-four of them name performance, frame rate or FPS; the other four are bare thank-you notes with no topic at all. One of those 28 sits under a review reporting a progress-blocking bug — id 236477396, 153 upvotes, where "restocking the noodle stand the first time won't complete unless you buy extra ingredients because your cook is using ingredients while you shop" — and its reply is "This is so lovely to hear, thank you so much!"
- No patch notes. The news feed still ends at the launch announcement; the known-issues thread promises "Patches to improve things further are already in the works", undated.
- No save path in the FAQ. It appears only in the pinned bug-reporting thread, which is why this page leads with it.
FAQ
Where are the Nivalis Nights save files?
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ION LANDS\Nivalis Nights — the .sav files sit with Player.log and Player-prev.log. That path comes from the pinned Known Issues thread, not the FAQ.
Does Nivalis Nights autosave? Yes, at the end of each in-game day, plus a manual save from the pause menu at any time. The developer recommends saving manually before quitting.
How many autosaves does it keep?
Unpublished. Players report one; nobody at 505 has confirmed a number. Count the .sav files yourself.
What if I am stuck and no keybind works? No confirmed fix. One player escaped a newspaper animation lock with a controller and the B button; the bed report has no replies, and neither saving nor restarting helped.
Why did my restaurant stop getting customers? Unconfirmed, and "corrupt save" is only one theory. Story deals and spoiled deliveries are linked to it in the forum thread, and relaunching after saving is the most repeated fix.
