Nivalis Nights System Requirements: Min vs Recommended

Nivalis Nights needs a 64-bit Windows PC with 16 GB of RAM, 42 GB of free SSD space and DirectX 11. The graphics card is the only component that really separates one build from another, and the split is VRAM: 6 GB for minimum, 12 GB or more for recommended. Neither tier is a vague label — the minimum line is written against 1080p at 30 FPS on the "very low" preset, the recommended line against 1440p at 60 FPS on "high", and both at native resolution with no upscaling used at all. The developer attached one caveat to that table: "Please treat them as a guide rather than a guarantee."

Nivalis Nights minimum requirements

Component Minimum
OS Windows 10 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-11600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER or RTX 3050 / AMD Radeon RX 6600 / Intel Arc A750 (6 GB VRAM)
DirectX Version 11
Storage 42 GB available space

The Additional Notes field for this tier reads: 1080p at 30 FPS with the "very low" Graphics Quality preset. Native resolution, no upscaling utilised. SSD required. Laptop equivalent: RTX 4050 Laptop with 6 GB VRAM. Mobile GPUs perform below their desktop equivalents.

Four separate GPUs are listed at the same 6 GB VRAM level — the GTX 1660 SUPER, the RTX 3050, the RX 6600 and Intel's Arc A750. The floor is a VRAM budget, not a brand: a card three generations apart from the newest one listed can sit in the same bracket, because both have 6 GB of VRAM, not because they perform the same.

Component Recommended
OS Windows 11 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-13600K / AMD Ryzen 5 7600
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 / AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (12 GB VRAM or more)
DirectX Version 11
Storage 42 GB available space

The Additional Notes field here reads: 1440p at 60 FPS with the "high" Graphics quality preset. Native resolution, no upscaling utilised. SSD required. Laptop equivalent: RTX 4080 Laptop or RTX 5080 Laptop with 12 GB or more VRAM. Mobile GPUs perform below their desktop equivalents.

Read the tables side by side: RAM does not change — 16 GB in both. Storage does not change — 42 GB in both. DirectX does not change — Version 11 in both. What changes is the CPU, the VRAM and the OS floor. If your RAM and disk already meet the minimum, a bigger GPU is the entire recommended-tier upgrade.

What each tier actually targets

  • Minimum = 1080p, 30 FPS, "very low" preset, native resolution.
  • Recommended = 1440p, 60 FPS, "high" preset, native resolution.
  • Both = SSD required, no upscaling utilised, DirectX 11, 16 GB RAM, 42 GB free.

The interesting question is not what the recommended tier is, but why 505 did not let a cheaper GPU reach 1440p60. The answer is in the same FAQ, under upscaling:

"Despite our best efforts, we are unable to do so. This is due to the Unity Engine version used for the game being quite dated and not supporting upscaling. Upgrading the Engine version would have added too much risk to the development, which is why we ultimately were not able to support these upscaling technologies. We are evaluating if this can however be added in the future, to further improve performances."

No DLSS, no FSR, no frame generation. Every pixel at 1440p has to be shaded by the GPU itself, which is one reason the recommended line asks for 12 GB of VRAM rather than a cheaper 8 GB. The developers' May 2026 optimization write-up frames the target as a 16.66 ms budget per frame — the arithmetic of 60 FPS — with no room in it for rendering a smaller image and upscaling it, because that step does not exist in this build.

Can my PC run it? Reading the tiers honestly

The FAQ frames the table as a spectrum, not a pass/fail line: the requirements "show which desktop and laptop setups correspond to each resolution and frame rate target, so you can see where your PC is likely to sit." Interpolate.

  • At or above recommended: 1440p at 60 FPS on "high" at native resolution is what the developers measured.
  • Between the two lines: a 6 GB card with a newer CPU, or a 12 GB card with an older one. Nobody published a number for your exact build.
  • Below the minimum line: the table stops at 6 GB VRAM and an i5-11600K-class CPU, so there is no official floor beneath it. The game may well launch; treat any expectation as unverified.
  • Laptop users: the store page says plainly that "Mobile GPUs perform below their desktop equivalents," which is why laptop equivalents are listed separately — an RTX 4050 Laptop for minimum, an RTX 4080 Laptop or RTX 5080 Laptop for recommended.
  • No PC at all: the game streams through GeForce NOW.

The developer's caveat, in their own words

From the official Nivalis Nights FAQ thread posted by Camilla505:

"To give you a rough idea of how Nivalis Nights runs on different hardware, please refer to our full PC system requirements. They show which desktop and laptop setups correspond to each resolution and frame rate target, so you can see where your PC is likely to sit. Please treat them as a guide rather than a guarantee, as results can vary depending on your drivers, settings and what else is running on your PC."

Players were arguing about these numbers before the game shipped. The most active thread on the subject, "Why are the system requirements for this game so high?", was opened on 27 September 2026 — two days before release — and had reached 50 posts by the time this page was written. For scale, the official Steam Web API reported 5,753 players in-game at 14:46 UTC on 30 September 2026 — a timestamp, not a statistic.

When the specs are not enough

The developers published an ordered ladder for any build that meets the minimum and still stutters: lower the graphics preset first, then fine-tune individual settings, update your graphics drivers, and close background apps. On a laptop, plug it in, set the Windows power mode to Best Performance, and confirm the game is on the dedicated GPU. If that fails: verify the game files in Steam, restart, re-check the minimum, and if it persists open a ticket at support.505games.com.

We do not publish frame rates we have not measured. What the record does support: frame rate complaints dominated the first-day Steam reviews, the developer response has been that "improving performance is a major focus for the team right now" with no patch date attached, and no patch notes were published as of 30 September 2026. Causes and fixes are in Nivalis Nights performance issues.

The recommended tier is not a performance promise

Meeting the recommended specs tells you where the developers measured 1440p at 60 FPS. It does not promise you will get it in a given district, at a given hour, with a crowd on screen — which is exactly the case that caveat was written for.

FAQ: Nivalis Nights System Requirements

What are the minimum specs? Windows 10 64-bit, an i5-11600K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, a GPU with 6 GB VRAM, DirectX 11, and 42 GB free on an SSD.

What are the recommended specs? Windows 11 64-bit, an i5-13600K or Ryzen 5 7600, 16 GB RAM, an RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT with 12 GB VRAM or more, and the same 42 GB.

Do I need 32 GB of RAM? No. Both tiers list 16 GB, and nothing official supports a 32 GB requirement.

Is an SSD mandatory? Yes. "SSD required." appears in the Additional Notes of both tiers, not just the minimum one.

Does Nivalis Nights support DLSS or FSR? No. The Unity version in use does not support upscaling, and upgrading the engine "would have added too much risk." The developers are still evaluating it, with no commitment attached.

Does Nivalis Nights need an internet connection to play? No. The FAQ states you do not need one beyond what the platform requires to update the game. Cloud saves need a connection to sync, but you can play offline and they will upload later.

Can I play it on hardware below the minimum? Nothing official promises it, but the game streams through GeForce NOW. See also Nivalis Nights on Steam Deck and Nivalis Nights platforms.
