Nivalis Nights Reviews: Metacritic Score, Steam Split, and the Player Verdict
There is no critic score for Nivalis Nights. Metacritic reads "Critic reviews are not available yet" and every score field shows tbd, because the game launched on 29 September 2026 and almost no outlet has filed. Players moved faster: Steam showed 73% positive from 1,355 user reviews at 14:49 UTC on 30 September 2026, and the review API put the total at 1,438. An empty critic score next to a settled player verdict is the whole story of this launch.
Metacritic right now: every score field is a placeholder

Official source: Nivalis Nights on Metacritic
"Available after 4 ratings" is Metacritic saying its own minimum is not met yet, not that four people rated it and you should go look. Until that threshold clears the value renders as tbd, so any site quoting a Metacritic user score here is reading the wrong field. Metacritic also files it under Tycoon, while Steam and the publisher list Adventure / RPG / Simulation.
Steam: 73% positive, and three numbers that disagree
We pulled the store page and the review API minutes apart on 30 September 2026.
| Source | Reading | Captured (UTC) |
|---|---|---|
| Store page tooltip | 73% of the 1,252 user reviews are positive | 14:46:47 |
| Store page tooltip | 73% of the 1,355 user reviews are positive | 14:47:35 |
| Store page tooltip | 73% of the 1,355 user reviews are positive | 14:49:53 |
| Store page tooltip | 73% of the 1,355 user reviews are positive | 14:49:59 |
| Review API, all languages | 1,438 total / 1,057 positive / 381 negative | 14:46:25 |
| Review API, all languages | 1,438 total / 1,057 positive / 381 negative | 14:47:51 |
| Review API, English only | 1,030 total / 804 positive / 226 negative | 14:47:44 |
Every number above is real; they just describe different moments. The label next to the tooltip reads "Mostly Positive", and the store page HTML is cached in layers, so it lags the API and jumps in steps. That is why the tooltip read 1,252 on one load and 1,355 a minute later.
The store page, the API and any article written this morning all disagree. If a page gives a review count with no capture time, treat the time as the fact.

What the players are actually complaining about
We read the 100 most-helpful reviews off Steam's review API at 14:48 UTC: 52 positive, 48 negative, 12 languages, all written between 29 September 15:14 and 30 September 07:52 UTC.
| Complaint theme | Reviews mentioning it |
|---|---|
| Frame rate, stutter, optimisation | 49 |
| Whether it is worth the money, refunds | 21 |
| Writing, voice acting, dialogue volume | 15 |
| Compared against Cyberpunk 2077 | 14 |
| Staff, cooks, manager behaviour | 13 |
| Compared against Cloudpunk | 13 |
| Bugs, softlocks, crashes, saves | 9 |
| Map, navigation, missing minimap | 6 |
| No DLSS / FSR / frame generation | 4 |
Themes overlap, so the column does not add to 100. Performance appears in roughly half the most-upvoted reviews, and is the only theme near the top of both columns.
That it survives top hardware is the part that matters. The system requirements page lists four separate minimum GPUs — the GTX 1660 SUPER, the RTX 3050, the Radeon RX 6600 and Intel's Arc A750, all at 6 GB VRAM — and the two most-upvoted negative reviews come from people running a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an RTX 5090 and a Legion 5 Pro. A complaint that survives that is not a settings problem, which is why our performance and fixes page leads with causes, not sliders.
Five positive reviews worth reading
- 233 upvotes, 4 hours played — "Cyberpunk 2077 is my favorite game of all time, and I have over 1,000 hours in it. Ever since I first started playing Cyberpunk 2077, I dreamed of living in a place like Night City — not just visiting it, but actually living there, working, making friends, having a job." Closes: "The only downside is the performance."
- 153 upvotes, 8 hours played — "What I thought was going to be a simple slice of life cyberpunk restaurant sim has so much more depth to it... I have not had any performance issues."
- 123 upvotes, 3 hours played — "I think the downvotes for performance are a little unfair... This isn't like a AAA giant are bombing at launch on a $80+ title, people would do well to keep that in mind imo." A player arguing the rating war will hurt a small team.
- 64 upvotes, 2 hours played — "Performance is a little off, needs optimizing, but so far, enjoyable, retro, cyberpunky. Quite a nice price too." The developer still answered with the standard template.
- 38 upvotes, 4 hours played — "cyberpunk 2077 for cozy gamers HEHEHE i can see myself leaving the game running just to have it on the background as i work." The background-game-as-ambience pitch, from a player.
Five negative reviews worth reading
- 592 upvotes, 29 Sep 16:19 UTC — the most-upvoted review on the board. "I wont refund because I want to play more but will leave a downvote for now until it's fixed. I actually have higher FPS in CP2077 with path tracing on than in this game when looking somewhere with more than 5 NPCs."
- 570 upvotes, 29 Sep 15:57 UTC — "In quite a few areas I go below 60 FPS with the lowest hitting 35 FPS while on high settings. There also seems to be no difference in performance regardless of what settings i use. PC Specs: 1440p Resolution Ryzen 9 9950X3D RTX 5090 64 GB RAM I've tried some of the fixes that the developers have recommended but nothing has worked."
- 300 upvotes, refunded — "Its just sad. The game itself seemed fun, i liked the atmosphere so far and the shop manegement also seems fun. The performance kills it for me... I suggest waiting if you are interested.. because there is a good game there."
- 114 upvotes, Simplified Chinese — the most detailed structural critique we found, naming four problems: the map only distinguishes large regions and vendors carry identical markers, dialogue is padded, the first quest sends you toward a district you have not unlocked, and frame rate dips on turns. Closes: "right now it really is not worth adding to your library."
- 12 upvotes, but the one that changed the replies — "Game has very bad framerates and frame-times, even on recommended and above setup NOT at the advertised 60fps. This causes motion sickness for me."
The developer's public response
Sixteen of our 100 most-helpful reviews carry a developer reply, and performance is the only thing any of them addresses. The template version, sent five times in this batch, tells you exactly how much the publisher has committed to, and it matches the short answer in the official FAQ thread:
Hi - Regarding performance, frame rate can vary in areas with lots of NPCs. If you notice performance dropping, restarting the game should help, or try setting your PC's power mode to performance. It will help boost your CPU and FPS. If things don't improve, please report this issue directly to our Support team.
What changed after players pushed back matters more. One reply to the 592-upvote review says: "We're aware that some players are experiencing performance issues, and improving performance is a major focus for the team right now." Another, to a player who refunded over "amateurish voice acting" plus the replies, is an apology:
We completely understand how the "restart your computer" response could have come across as dismissive, and that wasn't our intention... As soon as we get an update on the situation, we'll let you know.
No patch number, no date, no fix list. Steam's official news feed still tops out at the 29 September 18:10 UTC launch announcement with nothing about a hotfix, re-checked at 14:51 UTC. Any page promising a performance patch date right now is inventing one.
So is Nivalis Nights worth it right now?
Worth it if you want a cosy cyberpunk city sim and can live with frame drops in crowded streets. Not worth it if frame pacing decides whether you get motion sick — our guide to the missing third-person view explains why there is no view toggle to fall back on.
The refund wager is cheap: the publisher's store listing puts the game at $24.99, and the 10% launch discount was still showing $22.49 on Steam when we checked. The buyer-split is unusually clean for a day-two scrape — the refunds are almost all performance refunds, while the people who stayed tend to call it the cyberpunk life sim they had been waiting for. Our what it is page covers who the game suits; the price page has the discount end date.
FAQ
What is the Metacritic score for Nivalis Nights? There isn't one. At 14:46 UTC on 30 September 2026 the page reads "Critic reviews are not available yet" and every platform card shows tbd.
What percentage of Steam reviews are positive? 73% on the store page at 14:49 UTC on 30 September 2026. The API gave 1,057 positive out of 1,438 across all languages at the same time, also 73%.
Why do the store page and the review API show different counts? The store page HTML is cached and updates in steps — we saw 1,252, then 1,355 one minute later — while the API reads live.
Has the developer promised a performance patch? No. They say performance is "a major focus" and apologised for the "restart your computer" replies, but there is no patch number, date, or note.
Should I wait for reviews before buying? If frame drops decide whether you get motion sick, waiting costs nothing: the discount runs to 13 October 2026. If you have waited four years for a cyberpunk life sim, the 233-upvote review above argues for buying better than any aggregate.
