Nivalis Nights Curfew: Day Night Cycle After Dark

Nobody has published the answer. Two days after launch, on 30 September 2026, ION LANDS has never named a curfew hour, never stated how long a day lasts, and never confirmed a time-speed setting — and curfew, weather and clock appear zero times in the official FAQ thread. What is confirmed is that a day/night system changes what you can do, and that rain changes how many customers turn up. The only verified way to change the clock is a 2 KB mod.

Official source: COMMUNITY Q&A, 31 March 2026, Steam news feed — "Do systems like weather, day/night cycle, or media (radio, TV, internet) affect gameplay?" → "Yes, some systems have a direct impact on gameplay. For example, day and night life offer different opportunities (after all there's a curfew for a reason)."

What the developer has actually confirmed about day and night

Two other official texts touch the system. Both say it matters. Neither contains a digit about it.

Source What it says What it never says
Store page features "Avoid security systems during curfew and commit sabotage to your competitors. But beware! What happens to them, can happen to you as well." / "With a realistic weather system" Curfew hour, fine amount, security names
May 2026 devlog "we've dialed in the weather effects, so watching the rain or seeing the snow fall against the pavement will look better than before" What rain or snow does to numbers

The 29 September launch announcement frames the loop in daylight words — "spend your days growing your flourishing business, your evenings getting to know the locals" — while the pre-launch "A Day in the Life" post promises the opposite of a timer: "what you do and when you do it will be entirely up to you, at your own pace." That is marketing copy, and if you are routing through the districts no public timetable exists to plan against.

Three achievements that prove the systems exist

When documentation is missing, Valve's achievement text is the closest thing to a spec the game publishes about itself. Three entries in the full 120-achievement list read as rules. Rates are from Steam's global stats page at 16:23 UTC on 30 September 2026; the review total stood at 1,479 a minute later. These percentages only climb, so read them as a launch-week floor.

Achievement Valve's own description Unlock rate
After Curfew (no description published) 10.9%
Rat Whisperer "Help rat whisperer Gladstone on a secret mission during curfew." 0.1%
Umbrella Corp "Place an umbrella in one of your venues to protect more customers from the rain." 4.0%

After Curfew is the one players ask about and the one nobody can explain. Steam serves an empty description field — an empty <h5>, not a hidden one — and never says whether it is flagged secret, so we are not guessing at its condition. Rat Whisperer points the other way: at least one side objective is only reachable during curfew, and it is one of eight case and side-quest achievements, seven on the 0.1% display floor. Umbrella Corp is the hardest evidence here that weather moves business — Valve wrote "protect more customers from the rain", so rain costs you customers.

Judge the weather after you place the umbrella

A venue umbrella is a direct footfall multiplier, and it is venue furniture, so it rides the same shopping pass as equipment for running your venues.

What time does the curfew start? Nobody has published it

Three checks, all run on 30 September 2026, all negative:

  • The official FAQ thread answers platforms, languages, driving, fishing, greenhouses, romance, saves, upscaling and modding. We searched the full post for curfew, day/night, weather, rain, umbrella, clock and speed: every one comes back empty. It does answer "Does Nivalis Nights have graphics settings?" with "several graphics presets in the options menu", and nothing about time.
  • The pinned Read First / Known Issues post from launch day lists six categories under active work: performance, quest dialogue, NPC movement, placing items, Steam Deck, and clipping and animation. Curfew and time are not among them.

The Steam news feed's newest item at 16:24 UTC was still dated 29 September. No patch notes had shipped.

The "2 AM curfew" number on fan sites is not sourced. Search listings show a cluster of guide pages built around it — one built around "the 2 AM curfew" and "all five weather types", another telling readers to "beat the 2 AM curfew", a third listing "sunshine, rain, snow, fog, thunderstorms" as the complete set. That is the current state of the genre, not a specification: none of those pages cites a developer, and the specific hour is absent from every official text above. We could not trace 2 AM to 505 or ION LANDS anywhere. If someone tells you the curfew starts at 2 AM, ask where the developer said it.

If you want it on the record, a ticket is the fastest route: support.505games.com, with a DxDiag report and the logs in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\ION LANDS\Nivalis Nights.

How long is a day? Two unofficial estimates, and they agree

No official figure exists, but two independent non-official routes land on the same number. The modder who wrote Custom Time Multiplier had to read the clock to patch it, and gives the stock value: "By default it's set to 30 from the game's original 60, which equates to 1 in-game minute per 2 real seconds." Half the multiplier is the slower setting, so the shipped 60 is one in-game minute per real second — putting a 24-clock-hour day at about 24 minutes of real time. Separately, a player in the Steam thread Needs a time 'speed' option.. did the same arithmetic: "An hour gone in a minute? A day gone in 24 minutes?"

That 24-minute figure is derived, not announced

It assumes the clock runs midnight to midnight with 24 hours in a day, and that the 60/30 multiplier is game-minutes per real second. ION LANDS has confirmed neither, and the clock may not even start at 00:00. Best-supported estimate, not a fact.

That is the whole complaint, and it is loud. That thread opened on 29 September and now carries 53 comments, starting with: "I'm just looking around, admiring the artwork and suddenly it's already noon in the game and I feel like I have to start sprinting around to get on with the game." A Daylength thread opened on day two wants the fix "because people are forced to rush instead of having a nice day." Read it for the dissent too: the standard counter is "There's no real timer", and the reply is the right one — "I'm talking about the day/night timer and the city going into curfew while I'm sightseeing."

The one verified way to change the clock

There is no in-game setting. The only method anyone can demonstrate is Custom Time Multiplier by dazawmbie, a 2 KB BepInEx IL2CPP plugin uploaded on 30 September — the author who answered in the time-speed thread: "Already made a mod that allows you to customize it." Install BepInEx IL2CPP, launch once so the plugin writes its .cfg, drop the .dll into Nivalis Nights\BepInEx\plugins, edit the multiplier. The exact loader build is pinned on our mods page — the wrong loader fails silently.

Off the stock 60 has a known visual cost

The mod's own "Known Issues" reads: "Female customer eating animations sometimes bug out on anything but the original 60 time multiplier." A visual bug rather than a gameplay consequence, but it lands in exactly the venue scenes the compressed clock squeezes.

The developer's position has not moved. The official FAQ still answers "Does Nivalis Nights support modding tools?" with: "This isn't part of the game's scope at the moment." Nothing in the known-issues post mentions a clock setting, so there is no roadmap promise either.

What curfew actually does, according to players who broke it

Everything here is player report from Steam reviews on launch day — observation, not a ruleset. The most detailed account is from a refunded player testing it deliberately: "first thing I did when I hit curfew was get spotted on purpose… just a message that corpsec will be watching me….okay, then a fine the next day, the game couldn't even be arsed to spawn in a character to give me the fine." That single unverified report is the only description of the penalty in the public record; no official source names a fine, an amount, or a repeat-offence rule. Another player reads the city as governed rather than policed: "there's a black market operating after hours, and the city is controlled by some authoritarian governance, resulting in curfews and other intriguing restrictions."

If a curfew-gated objective is what you want, Rat Whisperer names the window, and quests and commissions covers what else is.

FAQ

What time does the Nivalis Nights curfew start? Unpublished. No hour appears in the store page, the community Q&A, the FAQ thread or the known-issues post. The "2 AM" figure on fan wikis has no citation we can find.

How long is a day in Nivalis Nights? Unpublished. Two unofficial routes converge on roughly 24 real minutes per in-game day, but no developer has confirmed it.

Does rain affect customers? Yes, in one documented way: "Umbrella Corp" reads "Place an umbrella in one of your venues to protect more customers from the rain." No official source says how many customers rain costs.

Can you slow down the day/night cycle? Not in-game. The only verified method is the Custom Time Multiplier BepInEx mod, and the developer says modding tools are not part of the game's scope.

Is there a penalty for being caught during curfew? One player reports being spotted and then fined the next day. No official source names a fine, an amount, or a repeat-offence rule.
