You inherit the ramen bar Ramen Noir carrying 50,000 Lims of debt. How venues, permits, revenue milestones and loan sharks actually work.
Nivalis Nights Money: Starting Debt, Venues and Revenue
You begin with one noodle stand and a debt on it, and the game's own text says almost nothing else about either. Everything published on the money side is three achievement descriptions — Ramen Noir, a loan shark that wants interest, a permit for a second venue — plus a revenue ladder you can check against your save. No first-party source states what you owe, the interest rate, upgrade costs, wages, ingredient prices or a permit fee. This is the record, and where it stops.
What you inherit: a noodle stand named Ramen Noir
The bar has a name, and the only place 505 published it is an achievement. Debt Free reads: "You did it! Ramen Noir is debt-free. Congratulations!" Steam shows it at 0.6% of owners — that line names the venue, confirms you owe money on it, and attaches no figure.
You will see a specific number for what Ramen Noir owes quoted online. No official text states it. The achievement confirms the debt is real and clearable; the store page, the 505 publisher page, the launch post and the March 2026 Q&A are silent on the amount.
The venue ladder, in the publisher's own words
There is no official menu of venues with prices. What exists is a quality ladder, described four times in first-party copy:
| Venue format | Official wording | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Noodle stand | "Start humble with a noodle stand" | Store description |
| Ramen bars | "Manage businesses like restaurants, ramen bars or night clubs" | Steam store Features |
| Hole-in-the-wall bars | "from noodle stands and hole-in-the-wall bars to the city's hottest restaurants and nightclubs" | Launch post, 29 Sep 2026 |
| Restaurants, night clubs | "Manage businesses like restaurants, ramen stands or night clubs. Buy or grow your own ingredients." | 505 Games publisher page |
| Top restaurants, premier nightclubs | "climb your way up to own the city's top restaurants and premier nightclubs" | Store description |
The March 2026 community Q&A gives the operating loop in one sentence: "You'll buy ingredients, upgrade your venue, hire and manage staff, expand into new districts, and more." A September 2025 community blog ties expansion to districts — as you make a name for yourself you get to "expand your business as high as possible" — so the district list matters for business planning too. No source ranks formats or says what a district unlocks commercially.

Loans: interest is the only term the game names
Paid Back a Loan reads: "You have paid back a loan shark with interest." It sits at 0.1%, Steam's display floor. That is the whole official record on borrowing: there is a lender, the name is "loan shark", and repayment is not the principal alone. No rate, term or collateral rule is confirmed.
Players report the pressure without numbers. One owner with about 20 hours logged wrote on 30 September 2026 that he was "surviving literally pennies ahead of loan sharks some days, missing payments to my employees", and that "you'll stumble your way out of debt if you're smart enough about it."
Your second venue is permit-gated
Own 2 Venues reads, in full: "Start operating 2 venues. You need to gain a permit to lease your second venue." Only 2.6% of owners have it; Own 5 Venues — "Start operating 5 venues" — sits on the floor at 0.1%.
No first-party text names a permit tier, a fee, a processing time or an application route. One large games site has published a quest walkthrough calling the unlock a "Tier 1 Business Permit"; no official source uses that name or any tier system, so treat it as unverified.
One venue, then a permit, then a second venue. Two venues sit at 2.6% and five at 0.1%, so most players never get there.
The revenue milestones you can check tonight
Both revenue achievements and both service achievements are written "across your venues" — combined totals, not per-venue scores. Rates are from Steam's global stats page, pulled 30 September 2026 at about 15:00 UTC, day two after launch; they move hourly.
| Achievement | Official description | Unlocked by |
|---|---|---|
| 500 Daily Revenue | Reach a daily revenue of 500 lims across your venues. | 11.2% |
| 1000 Revenue | Earn a total of 1000 Lims in revenue. | 6.5% |
| Serve 100 Customers | Serve 100 customers across all your venues. | 29.4% |
| Serve 500 Customers | Serve 500 customers across all your venues. | 3.3% |
| Handle a Complaint | Handle a complaint from one of your customers. | 18.9% |
The currency is spelled "lims" in one and "Lims" in the other — Valve's inconsistency, not ours. Note what it lacks: no dish price, no profit figure, no ingredient cost, no wage. 500 Daily Revenue is one day's gross, not a margin.
Menu depth is the one lever a developer ties to money: the 14 August 2026 menu announcement says offering the right variety of dishes "can make all the difference, both for your wallet and for their experience". Offering drinks and a dessert are separate achievements at 55.6% and 15.5%. The cooking page covers what each dish needs.
Reviews are in-venue, and the 4-star average needs 100 of them
The review system that matters for a venue is not the Steam score — that is the player verdict, a different number. Three achievements cover in-venue reviews:
| Achievement | Official description | Unlocked by |
|---|---|---|
| First 4* Review | Get your first 4* review. | 81.0% |
| First 5* Review | Get your first 5* review. | 34.7% |
| 4* Average Reviews | Get an average of 4* reviews in one of your venues. Requires at least 100 reviews. | 2.0% |
That third line is the rule: the average is per venue and needs at least 100 reviews before it counts. A first 4-star is nearly universal; a first 5-star, 34.7%; a 4-star average in one venue, 2.0%. Of the 120 achievements there is no 5-star average, only the first.
What 505 has never published
The numbers a money guide would normally lead with, none on the record: the starting debt and any interest rate or loan term; venue upgrade, equipment and furniture costs; staff wages; ingredient prices, vendor lists and locations; permit tiers, fees and how a permit is granted; profit margins, revenue per customer, payback time.
One pricing rule is official and it is the only one: buying more often from certain vendors "might get you better prices", no percentages attached. That is the ceiling of published economics. Where to buy ingredients covers what sourcing does confirm, the manager and staff page takes wages, and the free supply lines sit on the greenhouse and fishing pages.
What players report about the money loop
Player reports, not rules, from Steam's review feed on 30 September 2026: 1,438 reviews, 1,057 positive, 381 negative.
The loop works if you stay on it, per one owner: "The core gameplay loop of accruing money to invest it back into your businesses, automating your businesses, then doing the same thing with a new business in a different place is excellent."
Early cash flow is the complaint, not the concept. A two-hour refund review says the game "demands upgrading after upgrading, which is rough at start because you barely make any kind of profit, even with just two employees." A longer one names the spiral — "you need more tables for more customers, need more staff for the business, but you're barely scraping by on profits." Nobody quotes figures — take the shape, not the magnitude.

FAQ
How much debt do you start with in Nivalis Nights? Unpublished. Debt Free names your venue, Ramen Noir, and confirms the debt is clearable, but gives no amount.
Is there a loan shark in Nivalis Nights? Yes, by name. Paid Back a Loan confirms the lender and that repayment includes interest. No rate or term is published.
How do you get a second venue? Through a permit: Own 2 Venues states you need one to lease a second venue. How you gain it and what it costs is undocumented.
Which business should I buy first? The official ladder runs noodle stand → ramen bar or hole-in-the-wall bar → restaurants and nightclubs → "the city's top restaurants and premier nightclubs", but no source ranks them by cost, return or district. That choice is menu and staffing planning, not a profit table.
Is Nivalis Nights a business management game? Half of one. 505 lists the genre as Adventure, Management, Simulation, but a developer reply in the Steam discussions calls it "not really just a business management game". The community Q&A frames management as one layer of the day, alongside story.
